More people than ever 'want to buy properties'

Estate agents will be pleased to hear that there has been a surge
in the number of people who want to become homeowners and buy a
property.
According to a recent report conducted by YouGov for the Council of
Mortgage Lenders (CML), 85 per cent of those surveyed said they
wanted to live in homes they own over the next ten years.
In 2007, this figure was 84 per cent - indicating a rise in the
number of people who want to purchase a house for sale despite the
effect the economic crisis has had on the property market.
CML's director general Michael Coogan said: "It is crystal clear
that most people see home-ownership as their tenure of choice over
the long term."
However, he added that it is still difficult to "fulfil that
aspiration … even if they are responsible with their
finances".
Homebuyers looking for advice on how to enter the property market
could check out the Which? guide called Buy, Sell & Move House,
which was released earlier this week.
